Over at Largerfamilies.com, we're talking about keeping family decorum in stressful situations like church services, graduation, or concerts. Any tips or tricks you'd like to share?

And some bloggy goodness that caught my eye today: Kim's excellent post about school volunteering over at the Chicago Moms Blog. I guess I'm broadcasting my lack of career savvy when I say that it had never before occured to me that one might be so calculating about school volunteering. I usually pitch in to whatever a) sounds like fun--or at least like I won't want to scratch out my own eyeballs after a few hours of it (as I would if I had to, say, cut out shapes from construction paper. I am surprised I graduated first grade with these cutting skills), b) is needed--whether desperately or just "well, this could stand to get done) and c) sounds like something I could actually fit into my life. In the past this has included writing and editing, data entry, and co-directing the school play...not as exciting, nor probably as useful, as heading up huge fundraisers, 'tis true, but all rewarding activities in their own way. And yes, I did get to know some of the "mover and shaker" parents while doing it, which netted me some nice casual friendships, but not much else (certainly no job offers or big contracts). Was it supposed to? Maybe this is why it's a good thing I'm a freelancer, and not trying to scale my way up the corporate ladder. Either way, Kim's post gave me a chuckle and also got me to thinking about how I can make the most difference at my boys' new school. Next step? Suggesting a SCRIP program to the principal...and offering to head it up. (gulp!) Watch out, world. My resume is about to get even more eclectic!

Hey guys I had an old laptop running XP Pro. A couple of weeks ago, every time I would connect to the internet via DSL or wireless, the hard drive light would come on - as if it were writing something to the hard drive. It would cause IE to run slower than dial-up. I looked in task manager and although the CPU usage was high, there didn't seem to be a process listed that was using it. I used LavaSoft Adaware to scan on a regular basis as well as Norton 2005. I eventually gave up and bought a new laptop (Vista Home), which now has the same problem. It is obviously related to something that I copied over to the new computer from the old computer. But the things is, Norton Internet security isn't picking up a virus. I used it to scan everything before copying it on to the new computer. Has anyone heard of such a thing or had the same problem? I'd much rather be able to find and remove the problem rather than restore.

And the Chelsea stopper blamed himself for the 3-2 defeat after two late goals from Nihat Kahveci ensured the Turks progressed to the quarter-finals of the tournament ahead of the Czechs.

With his side leading 2-1 and only three minutes of normal time remaining, Cech fumbled a straightforward cross into the path of Nihat who bundled the ball home.

And then just two minutes later the same player found himself clean through on goal to net the winner.

Cech had no chance of stopping the late third goal, but said he would still take the blame for the defeat because he believed his error had resulted in his defenders losing concentration.

"When you make a mistake, you have to admit it. It was my mistake that decided that we have to go home," he told the BBC after the game.

"My mistake was such a shock for everyone. I think the third goal was a consequence of the second one.

"When I went for the cross I knew I was alone. I didn't want to punch it. I wanted to control it and then catch it at the second time but suddenly the ball was too far.

"I should have just punched the ball - I know that now."

I went to a awesome concert of "Days No Different" last week in Reno. In the heat of the concert, I lost the CD that I purchased.

Anyways, Days No Different has since moved on in their tour. So heres my question. I'm looking for the song "Some Days" by Days No Different. I dont mind purchasing the entire "Surrender the Mistery" album to get the song.

I've walked around the casino shopping complex here in Vegas looking for music stores (seems like all music stores have gone bankrupt since the introduction of P2P) cause there are no music stores!
